A Bold Claim

Visualising the structure of Objectivism

Following on from last month's model, this animation is of the sphere tracing out its loxodrome path on the containing sphere's inner surface, shrinking/growing as it does so (golden ratio), this time in a continual ‘south-to-north-to-south-pole’ loop.

But why did I claim boldly that this model satisfies a number of criteria for a visual representation of the structure of Objectivism?

The model (out of which the animation develops) is essentially of three objects:

  • Containing sphere.
  • Middle sphere.
  • Small sphere.

Sets of threes underpin the structure of Objectivism. This trichotomy of spheres could be reproduced inside the middle/small sphere, as many times as needed — like a matryoshka doll — that is inside the single sphere which is animated. Loxodromes inside loxodromes, spinning ever faster.

The animation, however, at first glance, looks like two objects: the stationary containing sphere and the moving sphere (although spherical traces of its first and last position are still evident). But the moving sphere's surface is made up of two contrasting halves (‘two sides of the same coin’), simply moving in space–time between two distinct positions.

I may spin this sphere into a loxodrome shape (similar to the one shown in August 2022) which creates a two-surface object in a less contrived way. Furthermore, if one half has transparency, it introduces internality and externality too — an inner/outer surface.

In short: two objects, three surfaces.

But what might these surfaces/objects represent?

The containing sphere (itself a loxodrome half perhaps): the axiom of existence, yet also the philosophical branch of Metaphysics and all metaphysical aspects of the universe — indeed also the universe.

The (white/transparent) side of the moving object: the axiom of consciousness (identification), yet also the branch of Epistemology. It may also be significant that it seems to illuminate the world around it.

The (black) side of the moving object: the axiom of identity, yet also the branch of Ethics (Axiology, also containing Politics and Æsthetics — active evaluations).

The set of 3 × 3 tables developed in early 2022 hint at how these might be integrated internally in more detail.

Am I getting closer at representing the structure of Objectivism?
Possibly.
A bold claim ~ more clarity next month…
